The Radio Review Series : Part 7
Metro Mornings - Radio CityThis is an english music show that runs between 7 AM and 10 AM on Radio City (91.1 FM) and is hosted by Solomon Porres.
When Radio City started off in chennai , there was a tamil music show in the morning hours which was hosted by the bubbly and Chirpy RJ Sulabha. This show replaced it. Ofcourse , I love english music. So I listen to that part of the show where they play english music only :-)
Let me come to the point. First things first , more than 90% of this show is recorded. There begins my agitation. Ok , the RJ does a lot of research and gets in touch with a lot of interesting people to do an interview ..... but gather this , its 845 AM. You are on mount road in Chennai and the traffic hasnt budged for 15 minutes. You have an important meeting at 9 AM and there is no way you can get to office in 15 minutes. You know your boss will scream at you and you want some good music to cool you down. You turn on the radio and you hear someone talking about turtles that are soon becoming extinct or someone else who wants to say that Casteism exists everywhere....Not that I have anything against interviews , especially ones that focus on social causes - but that would not be the ideal scenario for me to listen to it you see...
And Mr. Solomon Porres , please stop playing "Stoopid Girl" by Pink , or for that matter ,"Friends theme " by The Rembrandts. I have lost count of the number of times you have played these two songs on air. Also , I think you should try rephrasing the sentences you repeat everyday. For example , the traffic update thing you do - You say , for instance ,this sentence everyday , " ............and if you wanna reach office on time , this is the time to leave......" and you say it with the same stresses on syllables.....Its kinda monotonous after sometime.....
Also , there is nothing new about the show any longer. When you switch on the show at a particular time , you know exactly what to expect :( And most of the times , you can even hope for a particular song to be played if you have listened to it the previous day.....Songs on this show are very very repititive.
Solomon is good otherwise....Nice english with pretty much okay pronounciation. And a friendly voice.
This show needs to get a life - and I dont just mean the song.
