The Radio Review Series : Part 4
Mirchi Mornings with SuchiWell...Lets see...Looks like a lot of people have been waiting for this review.
Mirchi mornings are done by different RJs. In this blog , Iam going to talk about the Mirchi mornings that are done by Suchi.
So I started this blog , thinking "Alright , I dont have any mindset about Suchi so this feedback is not going to be a partial one."
But that's not true. We met this lady once. At her office. (Radio Mirchi is located on the 6th Floor of Fathima Akhtar Court in Teynampet in Chennai.) We were having an event in office and one of my colleagues requested me to come along with her to check if we could invite Suchi for this. So me and my colleague reach her office by 930 sharp. I was surprised when I first heard the meeting time because Suchi's show was from 7 AM to 10AM and those days (beginning of Mirchi types), only Suchi used to do this show. OK....coming back....We were asked to wait as Suchi was busy. The mirchi reception is warm and cozy. They were also playing radio so it kept us entertained(for a want of better word). There are two meeting rooms in the reception area ( These are made of transparent glass and you can see who's inside the room). Ofcourse our madam was in one of the rooms whiling away her time gossiping with two other RJs. You can say ,"Hey , Maybe they were having a meeting!". Absolutely , you have meetings over a cup of coffee with ur body language like you are talking to your friends from school and what's more , you can laugh , kick and giggle when you have meetings ! But thats what was happening there....We waited patiently for 20 minutes. Which is when I realised - her show was goddamn recorded. That put me off even more !Anyway we did meet her that day and her attitude is definitely not something I want to discuss here.
Which is why I cant stop myself from writing this blog about Suchi with that particular incident on my mind.
"Too much hype about nothing"...maybe thats what Suchi is all about. Ok, she has a good...naah decent...Ok Sorry....A sultry voice that can flutter a couple of listeners. So what ? Ok, She picks up a lof ot bold topics to talk about on the radio...but does anyone realise that what may sound interesting and intriguing and extremely bold to us may actually be offensive to others. And it happens all the time with this show. Very bold topics targetted at a segment of people. When Mirchi was launched there were very few radio channels. Most of them were mass channels and this was one radio channel catered to the sub premium mass.I guess that is one of the main reasons for its popularity. And like many radio buffs would agree - once you like a program the first time , you stick to it for a long time....irrespective of the changes it undergoes later :).
Iam not denying the popularity of the show. Yeah they play good songs and new ones too....but its the old songs that I miss. I havent heard Illaiyaraja hits on this show at all. I also have heard repititive songs during the week. Which makes it bugging. The good thing about this show is the way it tries to target mass as well as the premium audience with its different segments.
But if you ask me , I'd always judge a person by his/her character. And to me, the most important thing about a show is its RJ. Ofcourse , songs, content , topic, theme etc matter. But is is the RJ who makes or breaks the show. And if you have read this blog this far , you surely know my opinion about the show by now.

First time here. Nice blog .
And yes, I knew that Hello Chennai is a pre-recorded program and what bugs me most is that their traffic updates, too are pre-recorded.
Now whats the point in giving a pre-recorded update?
Suchi's is a scripted show. You ask her to talk on her own for 5 minutes and she cant.
There was another guy (Balaji?) who used to host a show on 5pm.Absolutely no substance. He was terrible.used to izhutttufy and talk.
Deva(Sena) has a good voice, but imitates suchi in diction and falls flat
Thanks Blogeshwari :). I agree with you on Deva. More blogs to come on each RJ. Keep watching this space for more :)
